Search and Rescue Dogs.

During the past month we have become aware of the work done by rescue dogs and their handlers. The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation started in California because of the risk of earthquakes in the area. However, they have been involved in rescue efforts nationally, including Oklahoma City and now New York. There is an ever present need for rescue dogs. To be prepared each dog and handler team has to go through training and become certified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and it takes years to train these dogs for such a critical and sensitive task.
