3 Cats and a Shedding Blade

I recently had the opportunity to try out a shedding blade on three different cats. A shedding blade, a grooming tool that many pet owners are unaware of, is a curved piece of metal with dull teeth that picks up and removes fur from either a dog or cat. The first cat, an older white female cat, sheds profusely. When someone picks her up they are instantly covered in white fur. The second cat, a male grey tiger with a white belly and paws, is a fairly typical shedder. Although not excessive, he sheds a fair amount during the summer, but not too much in the cooler months. The third cat, a slim grey male cat sheds only lightly. He sheds a little when it is hot, but otherwise his shedding is barely noticeable. For the 17 year old white cat she can be a little sensitive, but also loves to be groomed. Not surprisingly the shedding blade removed plenty of fur. She took to it well, but after about ten minutes she had had enough. The shedding blade helped and did remove plenty of fur, but she could have been groomed longer as she always seems to have more fur to shed. The shedding blade worked well on the grey and white male. Other than a couple times when he tried to play with shedding blade, he took to it very well sat still and plenty of fur was removed. After a few minutes grooming was complete the excess fur had been removed, yet he would have been willing to sit through more. Finally the slim grey male cat was groomed. The shedding blade did remove some fur, but little grooming was needed. He tolerated grooming well considering he can be rather particular about how and when he is touched or patted. The benefits of the shedding blade were threefold. First, it was tolerated well by all three cats. To the eye it can appear harsh, yet it isn’t sharp and when used as intended provides no discomfort. Second, it was effective at removing fur. Third, it is much easier to clean than a brush. A simple shake removes the fur that has been gathered on the blade as opposed to a brush that has to be cleaned out as it fills with fur.
